This Texas lake, which is sometimes known as “P.K.”, is a 14,400-acre lake on the Brazos River and is located mainly in Palo Pinto County Texas. Also known for its clear blue waters, this Texas lake is an amazing place to visit or to live year round. The activities that are available all seasons bring tourists and residents together. There are plenty of things to do on and around this Texas lake and you may find yourself wondering where to start; with camping, fishing, water sports and many more things to do, it can be a tricky decision. Because of the clear blue waters – in fact Possum Kingdom Lake is one of the clearest lakes in Texas – scuba diving and swimming are incredibly popular here.

The draw of the Texas lake activities available in this area have been a large part of the tourism industry around Possum Kingdom Lake for years, and will most likely be for years to come. The vast array of events and attractions that are available all year round is what sets this Texas lake apart from the rest. Lake seasons are spring and summer, purely because of the nice weather, but don’t feel any pressure to choose something to do during these warm and sunny days; you may want to just relax and take in the beautiful surroundings that are breathtaking.

Possum Kingdom Lake Hells GateSPORTSMAN’S WORLD is the home of the famous “Hell’s Gate” and some of Possum Kingdom Lakes finest lake estates. Diverse topography in this hill country setting offers wide variety of deeded lake front lots. Gentle sloped beach fronts or wooded hillside deep water shorelines are located inside protected coves. Dramatic cliff line building sites have large open water views. The shorelines out of boat traffic areas often maybe permitted for boat docks. Bluff Creek Marina, Swimming Pool, Pavilon, Lighted Tennis Courts, Camping and Picnic Area, FAA Approved Airstrip with Hanger Space, Dry boat and RV storage facilities are enjoyed by the community. Sportsman’s World Recreation Association maintains the community.

THE CLIFFS is the largest resort community at Possum Kingdom with the best selection of unimproved lots. The Cliffs offers a variety of wooded, golf course, marina view, hill country view and lake front lots. The views from many of these lake fronts are heavenly as they are literally on a cliff line 90 feet or more above one of the largest and deepest areas of the lake. Many days it is clear enough to see thirty miles of pure Palo Pinto lake country. With Country Club Privileges, “Top Shelf” Restaurant, 18 Hole Golf Course, Marina, Ship Store, Gas Dock, Private Beach, Mini-Storage and Dry-Boat Storage, Conference Hall and Hotel, Condo Rentals, 2 Swimming Pools, Exercise Facilities, Lighted Tennis Courts and Private Beach with Picnic Area, there is something for everyone. There are three smaller fee simple developments accessible through The Cliffs, known as NEELEY’S SLOUGH, BOB WHITE BLUFFS and THE SPLIT RAIL RANCH.

The PENINSULA is the “heart of the lake.” Our commercial lake district contains marinas, dry storage, boat repair shops, Scuba Point, grocery stores, gas stations, popular restaurants, and several boat repair or storage operations. Only a short distance away from these businesses are five public use areas with boat launches and public beaches and adjacent lake lodges and motels. On occasion the Peninsula is populated with “weekend warriors,” but the full time residents still consist of mainly the abundant wildlife. Drive the tree and boulder lined winding roads to a diverse mix of residences ranging from fine lake estates to nostalgic cabins. Because the typography is so diverse there are gentle sloping private beach fronts as well as mountainside deep water shorelines on these Brazos River Authority Leasehold Estates.

The WEST SIDE feels very rural and relaxed. Just 15 minutes away from the city of Graham, which is home to a historic fort, restored movie theater, outdoor drive-in movie theater, antique galleries, grocery stores, the Graham Regional Medical Center, and a brand new Wal-Mart Super Center. Take a fun drive down winding State Road 1148 to see abundant lake views. Residents and guests enjoy gentle summer breezes from our Southern Exposure deep water shorelines. Because Graham supports Westside businesses all year long, most of the restaurants on the lake are located in this area.

The NORTH END of the lake is remarkable for its beautiful trees, gentle sloping sandy shorelines and hill country backdrop – making this area enjoyable for families and full-time residents. Experience beautiful sunsets and a grand view of the Palo Pinto Mountains. Being close to the entry point of the river is an attractive feature for people that like to fish or watch migrating birds. In addition, you are close to restaurants, convenience stores, and our lake airport.

Thanks to the rain we had this past weekend PK had to open 3 flood gates Sunday and a 4th on Monday morning. That’s a lot of water. This would be the perfect time to go canoeing down the Brazos river. No dragging bottom for sure.

Dragging? No paddling necessary. The trip would change from two days to two hours.
