Photoshop is more than a batch of filters. The natural power of this software is amazing. Take a look at what can be accomplished using nothing more than layer mask, a bit of work with channels, levels and easy to create custom brushes.
It may seem like a challenge to pull the window out of this image. The selection tool could work but using an alpha channel in conjunction with levels will cut hair and fingers out much cleaner. My technique doesn’t always work smoothly for every image, but it can be used in combination with other methods for making more complex selections.
On the next page – Sometimes you want to highlight a special smile and gorgeous eyes. Use a layer mask to cut out the eyes. Desaturate the main image, use levels to darken the highlights. Place the eyes on their own layer. WALLAH!
Also on the next page – OUCH! That sunburn! Lets help her out by using our dodge tool set for midtones at a very low exposure. Take out the strap lines with the healing brush.
