What worked yesterday still works today! The tools are bigger and better but so is the competition. You have a blog? Great! Is anybody reading it? Here are a few ideas to help drive traffic to your blog.
1. Make subscribing easy
Though we don’t really push it here at FBZ, if you want more subscribers on your site, make it obvious and “ask for the sale.” The best sales person is the one continually asking for the sale. Heck, add it at the bottom of each post. Just make sure your netizen get several views for signing up while visiting your site.
2. Get specific
Real Estate may be location, location, location. The world of blogging is specific, focused, and detailed. Find a niche with a decent readership and attack.
3. Have a subscription landing page
Create YOUR sales person in the form of a subscription page and then drive traffic to it from your blog, forums, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or any other way you can generate traffic.
4. Guest blogging
Its falls in with #three, #five and #six. Contributing content is a good way to gain exposure for your own blog. Please post original content and not recycled articles from the net or worse; your own blog.
5. Utilize forums
This is one of the tools that has been around since the beginning. It worked then and it works now. Before wasting your time, make sure the forum pertains to your niche and then be as helpful as time permits. The more time you spending posting and helping others, the more traffic you will generate on your web home. The golden rule pays off in all areas of your life.
6. Network Network Network
All things in the real world ALSO apply online. Be helpful, don’t harrass and reap the rewards of being a good Netizen. Gain friends, swap feeds, generate traffic.
Lastly, “Content is king” or at least it used to be. During my days of swirling award programs, it was all about presentation but we swore it was about content. Now its all about popularity. It’s getting A LOT harder these days to get noticed. Principle for yesterday, update your site frequently and produce truly great content. It did work, several years ago, but not anymore.
If you want links and subscribers now, you have to be connected. The not-so-secret to building a popular blog is NOT about writing tons of brilliant content. This is why 4,5, and 6 are so important. Write a guest post for someone in your niche that is helpful, leave comments in other more popular blogs and hope you get noticed. If you are successful, not only will the links come but so will the popularity. Behind every blog is a very real person dealing with the same problems that we do on a daily basis. Give yourself time and your network will expand due to all your hardwork and efforts.
The wife and I have such varied taste, FBZ is not a good example of niche blogging but we are not trying to sell products or win the big popularity contests. We participate for the sheer enjoyment of sharing. I hope some of this has helped one of our two readers. Hey, that’s 50%! Can’t beat odds like that.
I found two great articles that are MUST READS for Steve Pavlina’s monetizing your blog and David Risely’s selling your products. Both of these gentlemen are gifted writers and successful bloggers.
Good Luck and Happy Coding!
