Do you have a blog? Your are probably fighting off spam bots, evil hackers and the trackback comment spam but there is yet another problem. If you are like us and use a built-in feed or Feedburner by Google, you are probably dealing with content theft as well. RSS is a great way to distribute and syndicate content to the netizen, but it also makes you easy prey for content theft. Dang Spammers. One way they do this is by setting up spam blogs. These blogs have no original content, they simply pull in your content via RSS and pass it off as their own. Did I already say it? #$*&% Spammers!
There are a couple things you can do to actually utilize these vermin. ALWAYS find a way or reason to link to your posts to one another. At the very least, link to your category pages. You will notice that we post tags and categories with most of our posts. Articles that originate (original content items) with my site fall within the realm of geekhood so I manage to link one or two. Again, just be sure to have links to other parts of your site WITHIN EACH POST. WHY? Anyone stealing your content is giving you text links back to your site and nothing is sweeter than a FREE text link from another domain.
Something else you might try. You could put a little notice at the bottom of each post. For example, “Post originally appeared at flashbyz.com.” Creating even more text links back to your site. By now, you are probably hoping some deadbeat spammer is robbing you of your content. Many bloggers use plug-ins or “about the author” on posts. Any combination of these items will probably deter the wannabe thieves.
Hope this helps! Happy Coding!
