My Ramblings
Z-Nuggets *Blog*
A blog is a
website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries
of commentary or descriptions of events. "Blog" can also be used
as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a site.
Z-Nuggets *Wordpress*
WordPress is a state-of-the-art
publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability.
WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time. More simply, WordPress
is what you use when you want to work with your blogging software, not
fight it.
Believe it or not, there were 70,000 blogs a day created in 2006
One a second? There are many people that see blogs as nothing more than gossip corners, journals or wasted space full of external unoriginal content.
Blog is short for web logging / Weblog. The format was originally created to be exactly what I am describing. A dynamic place for people to put an online journal or share interests about current events. Sixty percent of their content is related to off-site information or feedback comments. Others made better use of the format such as Sgt. Stryker. It is one excellent example of constructive weblog usage that touched thousands of lives. Our boys overseas could post events of what was actually taking place overseas. Cool idea, huh?! I read it daily for about two years. It was part of my morning breakfast. Stryker and coffee were synonymous.
One more example of blog use is Grow-A-Brain.net. That site represents what most of my visitors expect a blog to be. Don't knock it. It has received millions of hits. It is the oldest Real Estate blog online and it has little to do with Real Estate. Go Hanan!
Intro to our upcoming AP
moreStill yet, there are blogs that follow none of the above mentioned formats and my site is one of them. I write the articles and post through my homemade CMS utilizing a MySQL database. Since I cutoff comment feedback, I no longer describe it as a true blog. Blog style formats are a win-win situation for visitors and designers alike.
Reasons behind me choosing this format of content delivery instead of utilizing my love of Flash design:
1. Great for SEO.
2. Accessibility for sight impaired / page readers.
3. Easily maintained through CSS for layout.
4. Continuity and fast loading is key.
5. Linkage is not a problem by utilizing dynamic includes.
6. Fresh content by adding articles and random image generator.
Thanks for your visit and happy coding!
